Copyright and DMCA policy

Last updated: 24 September 2026

This policy explains how to tell Psych Schools Limited (“MRC”, “we”, “us” or “our”) that material on the MRC website and learning service (the “Service”) infringes your copyright, what a valid notice must contain, and what we do when we receive one. It also explains how the person who posted the material can respond.

1. Our commitment to rights holders

We respect the intellectual property of others and expect the authors and users of the Service to do the same. Questions, textbook material and images on the Service are written for it, and questions that have appeared in past papers have been reworded; where third-party material is used, we aim to do so with permission, under licence or under an applicable exception, with the source credited.

We are based in the United Kingdom. We respond to notices of claimed infringement given under the notice-and-takedown provisions of the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §512), and to notices given under regulation 22 of the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. A notice that follows section 2 below is treated as a valid notice under both.

2. Reporting an infringement

If you are a copyright owner, or authorised to act for one, and you believe that material on the Service infringes that copyright, send us a written notice containing all of the following:

  1. Identify the work. Describe the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed — for example the title, author and where it was published, or a link to an authorised copy. If one notice covers several works, list each of them.
  2. Identify the material and where it is. Tell us which material on the Service you say is infringing and give the address of each page it appears on, so that we can find it. A link to another website is not enough.
  3. Your contact details. Your name, postal address and email address, and the organisation you represent if you are acting for one, so that we can reply and, where necessary, ask for more information.
  4. A good-faith statement. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  5. An accuracy statement under penalty of perjury. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed or are authorised to act on the owner’s behalf.
  6. Your signature. A physical or electronic signature of the owner or the person authorised to act for them. Typing your full name into the form below is an electronic signature.

A notice that does not contain all of these may be returned to you for completion, and we may not be able to act on it until it is complete. Please send one notice per work or group of related works rather than a list of unrelated complaints.

3. How we respond

  • We acknowledge the notice and give you a reference number to quote in any further correspondence.
  • We assess the notice. We may ask you for further information if something required by section 2 is missing or unclear.
  • Where the notice is valid, we remove the material or disable access to it.
  • Where the material was submitted by an author or user of the Service, we tell them that it has been removed and why, and we may pass them a copy of your notice, including your name and contact details, so that they can respond.
  • We tell you what we have done, or why we have not acted.

We aim to acknowledge a notice within two working days and to act on a complete, valid notice within ten working days of receiving it. These are targets rather than guarantees: an unusual or complex notice may take longer, and we will tell you if it does.

4. Counter-notice

If material you posted has been removed or disabled following a notice and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send us a counter-notice. It must contain:

  • your name, postal address, telephone number and email address;
  • identification of the material that was removed or disabled and where it appeared on the Service before that happened;
  • a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification;
  • a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales and — where the original notice was made under the DMCA — of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located, or, if you are outside the United States, of any judicial district in which we may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who gave the original notice or their agent;
  • your physical or electronic signature.

We pass a counter-notice to the person who gave the original notice. Unless they tell us within ten business days that they have sought a court order to restrain you from the activity complained of, we may restore the material between ten and fourteen business days after we receive your counter-notice.

5. Repeat infringers

An account that is used to submit infringing material more than once will be terminated. We keep a record of substantiated notices against each account for this purpose, as described in the privacy notice.

6. Misrepresentation

Sending a notice or counter-notice that knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, can make you liable for the costs and damages of the person affected, including ours (17 U.S.C. §512(f)). If you are not sure whether a use is infringing, consider taking legal advice before sending a notice.

7. Designated agent and contact

Notices and counter-notices may be submitted using the form in section 8, which is the quickest way to reach us.
