Work with us
Come work for us. We pay £200 an hour.
MRC is written by psychiatrists for psychiatrists. If you have sat the MRCPsych, or you teach it, you already know what a good question looks like and how rare one is. We would like to pay you for that.
£200 for each hour of your time
Email your CV to admin@mrcpsychiatrist.comWhat the work is
Pick whichever of these you are best placed to do. Most people do one of them.
Writing questions
Single best answer and extended matching items for Paper A and Paper B, each with the explanation that teaches the point. The explanation is the part that matters, and the part most question banks get wrong.
Checking them
Reading a colleague’s question and deciding whether it is clinically accurate, current with the guidelines, and whether the answer really is the only answer. Saying no to a question is as useful to us as writing one.
Textbook and courses
Writing or revising a section of the written textbook, or material for the ECG and research methods courses. Plain English that a tired trainee can read at eleven at night.
CASC stations
Writing stations, mark schemes and the actor’s brief for the practice bank, drawn from the scenarios you have actually seen examined.
Who we are looking for
- Psychiatrists at any grade who sat the examination recently and consultants who teach it.
- People who write clearly. The hard part of this work is the explanation, not the question.
- You do not need teaching experience, a publication record or any previous question writing. Send your CV and we will talk.
How to apply
Email your CV to admin@mrcpsychiatrist.com. Tell us which paper you know best and roughly how much time you have.
We pay £200 for each hour of your time, for the hours you actually work on it. Tell us what you have spent and we pay it.
We will never ask you to break your NDA
Everyone who sits the MRCPsych agrees to keep the content of the examination confidential, and we would never ask a colleague to set that aside. We will not ask you for questions from your own sitting.
Most of our bank is questions that have appeared in past papers, reworded. What we pay you for is the writing: new questions from the published syllabus, the guidelines and the literature, and explanations that teach the point.
Important
This is a revision aid, not a source of clinical knowledge. Everything here is written to help candidates prepare for the MRCPsych examinations. It is condensed, simplified and shaped around what the exams ask, which is not the same as what safe practice requires.
Do not use it to make clinical decisions. It must not guide the diagnosis, treatment or care of any patient. For that, use current national guidance, your local protocols, the summary of product characteristics for any medicine, and senior clinical advice. Content here may be out of date, and is not a substitute for any of those.
MRC is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Royal College of Psychiatrists. “MRCPsych” is used only to identify the examinations this material is written for. Using previously examined themes.
